An update

I'm sorry I've been silent here for a few weeks. I've been so excited that I've been spending every free minute working on the Auction for Russian Orphans. Recently I found these three Russian-inspired Madame Alexander dolls at a local discount store. All are brand new, in their original box, and valued at $85+ -- and selling for $40. Because they are discontinued styles, their value should increase quickly.

I am looking for three supporters who would be willing to spend $40 to buy and donate one doll; or six supportes who would be willing to spend $20 each to buy the dolls; or 12 supporters who would be willing to spend $10 each to buy the dolls, or any combination of the above.

I love Madame Alexander dolls. In fact, I collected them when I was young. But these dolls are fabulous. My favorite is the first one here -- Peter and the Wolf, inspired by the music composed by Russian Sergei Prokofiev for his son. The story is spoken by a narrator, and accompanied by an orchestra playing all the parts. Prokofiev wrote the composition in 1936 after his return to Soviet Russia.

The other dolls available are the Russian Ballerina in pink. And The Nutcracker, inspired by the ballet by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

In other auction news, I have been looking for artists to volunteer to each paint one doll in a five-doll matroyshka nesting doll set. Once done, we'll put the five unique hand-painted dolls together and auction them off. Each will be a unique piece of art. So far volunteers include an adoptive father, a Moscow native and a children's book author. But we're still looking for more volunteers.

And we're still looking for more donations. So if you have something to donate. Or want to participate but don't know what to donate, please contact us at arkangels@cox.net.
